About Christopher Delni Offord

Christopher Delni Offord Christopher Delni-Offord is a full time British artist specialising in landscape oil paintings.
Chris has been painting in oils for nearly 20 years and was privately taught in his early years by Stan Harrington a very established landscape painter in 'Constable' country on the Suffolk border. Stan was then in his mid 80's and had been a professional painter since 15, specialising in Epping forest scenes on large canvas, which could only described as 'walk in paintings'. Chris also enrolled in an art academy with Dennis Sheehan, the American tonalist artist whose works hang in the White House.

He was raised in an orphanage in Lancashire, but has Italian heritage; 'Delni' comes from his Grandfather 'Guido Delni', an Italian Opera Meastro/Royal Academy Doctor of Music who sang as a principal baritone across Europe including La Scala, Milan with Caruso and had an opera school in London.
Chris is greatly influenced by 19th Century tonal artists such as George Innes and Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, who shares the same birthday with Chris(but not the same year!!). The Pre-impressionistic/Tonalist style greatly celebrated nature, the spiritual and had glimpses of the human condition wrapped within them.

He has travelled extensively and lived in many parts of the globe and for a number of years he was a competiton windsurfer. He also ran an outdoor adventure centre in the High Peak National Park, Derbyshire and in 1992 was involved in a Mount Everest expedition and so draws lots of imagery from those experiences.

He also served 22 years in the British Army ending ranked as a Regimental Sergeant Major.

His choice of medium is oil and he works out of his own studio and brings 'plein air' painting into his collection. Some of his works are impressionistic representations of landscapes from around the world, but much of his work comes from the recess of his imagination, and from his varied and colourful life, bringing tension and reflection into his work. .

Each week Chris volunteers his time with three other artist running an art group for disabled people in one of the poorer areas of the town. They are inspired and precious moments, Chris is currently paired with a girl who has an inoperable brain tumour. Some of their work is shown here for you to enjoy. Please visit us
